Research Lecture Period 5

The last research Lecture of the year will be given by Prof Dr. Tjark Vredeveld on the topic: Learning in Scheduling on Tuesday, May 14th at 19:00, at TS53 H0.06.

Abstract:

In traditional scheduling problems, it is assumed that all relevant data is known a priori. However, in many applications, this assumption is not true and some data is uncertain and only known approximately. The area of stochastic scheduling deals with this uncertainty by representing the data as random variables, for which the density functions are known.

In this talk, we will discuss this concept of uncertainty and continue to add some additional uncertainty, leading to a situation in which we can learn about the true distributions of the random variables by processing jobs.

This is based on joint work with Sebastian Marban and Cyriel Rutten
