In this talk I will outline the proposed new features of the new Dutch pension-deal. The introduction of a “solidarity-buffer” is an important new element to absorb shocks within the pension system. We will show what the academic literature has to say about this, and what the optimal design of a shock-absorbing mechanism should look like.
